Survey Results and Next Steps!

mswsg_logo_32First things first, I’ll give you the rundown on the survey results:

The top activities that we would like to do in order of importance are:

o   Attending workshops to learn professional skills (negotiating, grantwriting 101, how to read a budget, how to describe the macro social work degree, how to network, how to build a macro social work toolkit)

o   Attending and learning about social entrepreneurship, social innovation, technology and start-ups, etc.

o   Building connections outside of the GSSW (Carroll School of Management, Lynch School, Law School, Boston University, Network for Social Work Management).

o   Participating in discussion groups to talk about diversity and other social work concerns with a macro lens.

o   Developing an ongoing database of field placements with specific areas of interest (i.e. Latino agencies, political consultants, foundations, etc.)

This list is not exhaustive of the activities that we can do as a group and some items overlap. It reflects the topics and areas in which we would like to work based on expressed interest. If you’re interested in working on the other topics (marketing, curriculum, field), let me know and we can still work on these interest areas!

Several of you volunteered to lead the different interest areas here, so I will be reaching out to you individually to come up with a game plan.

Other results:

– We want more food and more space! Due to budget restraints, we have to scrounge to have food, so if you’re interested in bringing food to share at the meetings, let me know!

– Fridays are the best time to meet for MOST people

– We’re interested in weekend and night events, just not all of the time.

– There’s a good mix of all years and concentrations, which is great!

Meeting Friday

McGuinn 400, 12 – 1 p.m.

Come ready to help brainstorm and break off into small groups. There will be some food provided, but if you want a full meal, BYOL (bring your own lunch)! (Sorry, we just have no budget yet!)

Topics of interest for Friday meeting:

  • Career Services and Cindy Snell update
  • Calendar events (shared calendar, show it in your calendar)
  • Weekly blog update
  • Off-campus social meetups (getting to know each other)
  • Macro and clinical idea sharing – teaching each other?

**For those of you who can’t make Friday’s meeting, let me know, and we can have another informal meeting on Thursday 10/9 at some point (based on people’s schedules).**
